>Jason_Li: AFMO G6 FOAM +23 23
>Joshua_Sokol: AEGINOW F8 WOE +18 66
#note scores much less than I can score, but the defense this provides is extremely beneficial. If Jason doesn't have an S, I'm in great shape.
>Jason_Li: AGIT E5 GAIT +17 40
>Joshua_Sokol: AAGINRT D3 GIANT +19 85
#note I had the right idea about trying to block as much as possible here, but Jason's tiles were too good. I should have fished with 7D A(I), or more likely played (Q)INTAR, which I also considered.
>Jason_Li: ?EEEMST 11E ESTEEMs +89 129
#note Now I'm in pretty bad shape
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AAGJOR C2 JAG +31 116
#note Or am I? I unfortunately miss JAGRA in the same spot for 11 more, which is significantly better
>Jason_Li: CDHTU 12A DUTCH +31 160
>Joshua_Sokol: ?ACIORY A5 CARYOtI. +89 205
>Joshua_Sokol: ?ACIORY -- -89 116
#note I absolutely hate the Y. It is a much better bingo tile than you would think, but that's completely voided by the fact that it can be in just about any part of a word. It is extremely difficult for me to find long words that contain the letter Y, because it can be a vowel or a consonant. It is so flexible that I'd rather just play it even when I know someone with better word-finding ability and word knowledge would benefit from keeping it. As such, I looked at this rack for around 10 minutes, meticulously searching for words, first through the D in DUTCH and then through other letters if I didn't find anything I was certain of. I saw CARYOTID very quickly, but had doubts about its validity. I knew CARYOTIN, CAROTID and CAROTIN were words, but failed to remember CARYATID, which would have tipped the scales in favor of playing something else. I saw ACRI(M)ONY, and doubted its validity because of AGRIMONY. I missed CITATORY and CRAMOISY through the T and S respectively, and ended up playing this. I didn't know my only valid play through the D, HyRACOI(D). As such, this was a very difficult turn for me, and then very tough decision to challenge by Jason. He did not know, and worried that I did. I was relatively confident given that I hadn't thought of CARYATID, and he definitely sensed that confidence. In the end, he made the right decision. This whole process took around 15 minutes. Very tense.
>Jason_Li: ALOV C9 VOL.A +24 184
>Joshua_Sokol: ?ACIORY J7 ACRI.OnY +74 190
#note Still HyRACOI(D), but I unfortunately didn't have a moment of revelation between the time I played the phony and the time he played VOLTA. I decided I had no more to lose by playing this, and so I went with it. Luckily this time my memory served me right.
>Jason_Li: AINP I2 PAIN +20 204
>Joshua_Sokol: AENRSUV 8J .AVERN +45 235
#note I almost played R(E)VUES at H10 to be even more aggressive, since PAIN signaled something weird was up. Still, I was rattled and not even close to making such an obvious equity blunder to block something unknown.
>Jason_Li: EINX H11 .XINE +60 264
#note And yet doing so might have been brilliant enough for me to get my head back into the game.
>Joshua_Sokol: EKNSSUW A8 UNWE. +27 262
#note The second moment of truth arose at this moment. Having drawn the K, I noticed a cute spot for it at 6F. Now a few months ago I think I would have been very keen on going right ahead with my instinct that that was how you spelled the word in AAFKN.
>Jason_Li: DEIOPRU O7 I.POURED +62 326
>Joshua_Sokol: DFIKNSS J1 KIDS +32 294
#note Now I had a great play there. I was around 60% sure that it was NAKFA, no kidding. And then I started doubting FISK#! FISK# is Collins only! So adding the 90% certainty of FISK to the 60% certainty of NAKFA, I was only 50% sure of the play as a whole. My math made sense to me! And it was a good thing I chickened out of FISK#. DISK works there, but I just couldn't pull the trigger on NAKFA at that point.
>Jason_Li: EHIST 1J .ITHES +42 368
#note Was shaking my head at this point. Just not my time to screw up.
>Joshua_Sokol: FLNOSTZ K5 ZON. +28 322
#note I now needed to leave both the E in CAVERN and the E in EXINE wide open for my impending bingo. I didn't have much time to estimate how likely I was to bingo after the two plays I saw, 6B ZO(NA) and k5 ZON(A), so I chose the one that seemed intuitively better. I need to play 6B ZO(NA), and I might even have won with what I drew.
>Jason_Li: BY M7 B.Y +15 383
#note This was scored as 17. Jason says if I had played ZO(NA) instead he would have played BOY at G13 for more, which may have outrun F(E)LSTONE at M7. But actually upon analysis, FELSTONE wins with 6/8 draws, only losing with an L draw, of which two remained.
>Joshua_Sokol: EFLORST 3B L.. +4 326
#note desperate for something, running out of time. I should rather fish another tile.
>Jason_Li: BDILLOR 15D BILL.D +12 395
#note I really thought I had RESOFTE(N) and SOREFE(E)T* here. FOOTSORE is good, no SOREFOOT* or SOREFEET*, and no VOLTAS*. lol...
>Joshua_Sokol: EEFORST A1 SOFTER +38 364
>Jason_Li: OR 2M OR +13 408
>Jason_Li: (E) +2 410
