#player2 Judy_Newhouse Judy Newhouse
>Jim_Burlant: DILMTWY 8H DIMLY +30 30
#note Best. 4 points is too much to give up for the sake of vowel placement by playing this at 8D.
>Judy_Newhouse: EHRR L4 HERR. +22 22
>Jim_Burlant: ABEPQTW K3 QAT +33 63
#note I'd have thought the Q dump was the no-brainer play, but the sim disagrees. The duck says I should be playing WEB at either 7G or K3. That said the difference between first and fourth in the sim (QAT is 4th) is next to nothing; 7G WEB wins 55.84%, and this wins 55.33 and sims 1.2 points down. I'd make this play again.
>Judy_Newhouse: ACEG M3 CAGE +26 48
>Jim_Burlant: BBEELPW 7G WEB +25 88
#note Best. Quackle also likes N6 PEBBLE and BLEEP - I don't. I've been getting tired of looking at that W and want to unload it. To this point, I've played well. Starting on my next turn, the mistake-fest starts. Warning: if you want examples of how to play good Scrabble, skip my next 8 turns. Kids, don't do this at home!
>Judy_Newhouse: CDO N6 DOC +18 66
>Jim_Burlant: BELOPTU 6F BOP +24 112
#note FAIL. Couldn't think of PUEBLO or TUPELO, which play at O1. Either of those words would have prevented my next blunder in a couple of turns.
>Judy_Newhouse: EEIT K7 E.ITE +12 78
>Jim_Burlant: ELNRRTU -RLU +0 112
#note Not necessary in the strictest sense but I didn't like any of the plays I saw - URN J10, L11 NURL, O3 RULER..bleah. I'd rather draw 3 to ENRT and hopefully hit on row 10 or 11.
>Judy_Newhouse: AEHISV O1 SHAVIE +53 131
>Jim_Burlant: ENORTUY - +0 112
#note Even though I've never seen SHAVIE before, I should pay enough attention to recognize that she's just given me a wide open run at row 1. Instead, I challenge. Unsuccessfully. Bingoing for 86 wins 80%. Being a doofus and throwing away a turn for no good reason wins 52.
>Judy_Newhouse: GOW 5G WOG +23 154
>Jim_Burlant: ENORTUY 1H TOURNEY. +86 198
#note Now I wake up. Back to 64% winning chances.
>Judy_Newhouse: EFZ L11 FEZ +35 189
>Jim_Burlant: DILMNPT 2G LIMN +18 216
#note While the Z floating in space bothered me, I felt I didn't have the rack to deal with it: a DLMNT from ZIP didn't seem too promising. As for his, this was the wrong execution of the right idea. How do I not see LIMP for 12 more? The consolation: it wouldn't have mattered. 52% to win, but not for long:
>Judy_Newhouse: AALNNSU 3C ANNUALS +80 269
>Jim_Burlant: ?DGOPTX 4A GOX +22 238
#note This is best - I have to open up threats to see if she can do something about them. I'd also like to be able to turn more than 3 tiles in a given turn so I can land an A and do something about the Z. 34% to win.
>Judy_Newhouse: ANOT A1 TAN.O +18 287
>Jim_Burlant: ?DFIIPT I7 ..FID +15 253
#note Mistake #5. I saw ZIP and didn't like it - she was turning tiles, I wasn't, and I got overly scared that it would give 40 more back down the O column. While I was correct to not deal with the Z on my LIMN turn, I really needed to deal with it here. Failing that, I thought my best bet was to open up row 11; even if I gave her plays to H15 to counter the Z threat, anything to H15 would hopefully open up bingo lines in the southwest. ZIP should have been the play. 28% to win, and that's about to fall.
>Judy_Newhouse: ?AEIJR 13I JAz.IER +60 347
>Jim_Burlant: ?DEIIPT O12 D.IP +27 280
#note To this point I've played terribly. I've missed words I should have found, I've made poor decisions and it's mostly my fault this game is slipping away. But I am also not being given the luxury of recovering from my mistakes by my tiles. This is my 3rd straight blank rack which has no playable bingoes (I didn't think RIPTIDE(D)* would fly). This is best (I got one play right in a row!) but it's bleak: 8% to win.
>Judy_Newhouse: AEU 5C EAU +16 363
>Jim_Burlant: ?EINTUV J12 T.V +14 294
#note A 4th consecutive blank rack which has no playable bingoes, forcing me to burn more time. Here I was throwing up a flare, setting up an S hook and hoping for a miracle. I expected her to have one of the S's and that she'd use it to cover row 15 while I hopefully could land the other one to bingo on row 11 to save spread. I was upset w/myself for the mistakes I'd been making and figured the game was lost. I was low on time and when I initially saw the V on the triple letter, I liked the setup. VAU for 8 is probably a better play, since it's just as difficult to block and the leave is better. That said, this did work out.
>Judy_Newhouse: OORT 15K TROO. +8 371
#note To this point Judy has thoroughly outplayed me, but outplaying your opponent for 11 turns does no good if you slip up on the 12th. Judy empties the bag, and watch what happens:
>Jim_Burlant: ?EINSSU D5 .NUrESIS +64 358
#note Bailed out by pure luck - an entire game of mostly godawful drawing made up for by one outrageously lucky fish. As for this - I was down under a minute and saw ANUrESIS, and that was that. UNISSUED scores 66.
>Jim_Burlant: (AEIKLR) +20 378
#note OMG - how did I win this game?!?!?!?
