#player1 Mack Mack
#player2 Will Will
>Mack: IKLNNRU H4 KNURL +28 28
#note Sloppy start to this game, UNLINK is better.
>Will: EJMORVX 6F JE.X +34 34
#note I was pretty aware that I had made a mess out of the last two games, but I really did try to bring my best game for this one, and it just didn't work out.
>Mack: AEINPUV F6 .UVIE +17 45
>Will: MORTVYY 9C VOM.TY +32 66
>Mack: ?ABDNNP D8 B.P +10 55
>Will: AADERUY I3 EAU. +20 86
#note This move I liked, at least. After BOP I don't think it makes sense for me to do KAURY, so I played EAUX to score decently, block the K and open nothing else up, and retain the Y for PYE plays if I were to draw one (like MYRIAD, though I doubt I actually play that if I draw an I).
>Mack: ?ADINNO E9 .IND +19 74
>Will: ADEGPRY 12C PA.DY +24 110
#note Here I simply failed to consider the obvious EDGY. Yes, Mack is fishing, but putting a Y in 4th position in the triple lane isn't very dangerous, especially if we can expect him to have low point tiles. I just instinctively dismissed any play that opens up the board, but EDGY opens in a way that's pretty safe on the whole.
>Mack: ?AAINOS 13G ANOSmIA +72 146
>Will: CEEEGRT H13 .EG +12 122
#note I hoped that CEERT would be a decent leave here with RYA available, but Mack is going to parallel ANOSMIA so frequently that I never get the benefit of that. I balked at the underlap possibility of 13B TEG but it might be my best option here. Quackle likes 13A GEE. Seems a bit reckless to me.
>Mack: AEHLMOO 12I HOMO +32 178
#note Not playing 12I MOOLAH especially since Will is more likely than average to have an S after NEG.
>Will: CEEEFRT K10 FE..E +18 140
#note Using this opportunity to open up more of the board. I could also play at 13A or 13B with a number of things. I don't mind this, since the board is going to deteriorate unless I do something active to prevent it.
>Mack: AEEILLO J7 ALOE +13 191
>Will: CCEGNRT 14G R.G +17 157
#note On this move, I'm playing REG over other options because I want to preserve my ability to hit an -ING bingo from 15A. The other options don't allow me to do that. Technically, EGRET also preserves the ability to hit an -ING word as well, but it seems to needlessly give a lot back.
>Mack: AEIILQU K5 QUAI +30 221
#note 13A QUAI is 6 more, but this is much safer.
>Will: CCEINST L1 CESTI +31 188
#note Just not thinking to pluralize FEMME here for some reason, SCENT is perfectly fine.
>Mack: EILORST M4 ESTRIOL +73 294
>Will: BCNNRRR -BCNRR +0 188
>Mack: DEEGITZ 2J ZE. +32 326
>Will: FHINRTT N1 FRIT +17 205
#note Setting up my H, for lack of any better options.
>Mack: CDEGIRT N8 TRIG +15 341
>Will: ADHINNT O4 HAND +23 228
>Mack: ABCDENO O11 OCEAN +33 374
>Will: EINOTWW 15C TEWIN. +18 246
#note Best is 13B WET - this play gives up something sneaky.
>Mack: ?ABDLRS 13B DABS +34 408
#note Missed BiTWEINGS! That would have been a great play to conclude nationals, oh well. To be honest I don't think I thought it was good anyway, so I doubt I'd have played it even if I saw it - probably confusing it with BATWINGS*.
>Will: OW 14A WO +16 262
#note Huge congrats again to Will on becoming the 2017 North American Scrabble Champion!
>Will: (?LR) +4 266
