#player1 Avery Avery
#player2 Doug Doug
>Avery: COOOTWX H6 OXO +20 20
#note Arden Cup 2017 games. I roomed with Mack so he had some commentary on some of these. Mack says COX, Sid says COW, I liked this. I don't anymore. I think I should do COX.
>Doug: DIU I6 DUI +20 20
>Avery: CELOTWW -COWW +0 20
#note I really don't like being the one to open the board when Doug presumably has a workable leave after DUI. Also, none of my plays really leave well. I don't mind waiting a turn and keeping the L for J8. CP says to go ahead and play LOW, but this isn't far off. It also says to keep CELOT rather than ELT, but I like turning over some more on a closed board that isn't particularly good for the C.
>Doug: ABDU J3 BAUD +20 40
>Avery: AEILSTV 4D AESTIV.L +74 94
>Doug: BLW E2 BL.W +18 58
#note He put down something with BL?WN at 5A at first.
>Avery: ?EGIJLO H1 GOJ. +36 130
>Doug: EGIY 3J .EIGY +24 82
>Avery: ?AEEILR 1H .LEAmIER +74 204
#note I always forget is GASELIER is a valid variant. It is, as well as GASOLIER and GASALIER, both of which I remembered. So this is second. Dumb.
>Doug: AKNU G8 KUNA +16 98
>Avery: CDIMNOR H11 MICRO +34 238
#note Talked with Mack about this position for a while - I think I need to play at H11 and have choices between MONIC, DOMIC and MICRO. DOMIC scores 2 more than the other two options, but since I figured Doug kept some decent 3 tile leaves after BEIGY and KUNA, I liked putting a harder tile to work with at H15 (making a triple word bingo harder). Mack thought taking points was a bit better. CP suggests NOMADIC, which I did not consider. MICRO is second behind MONIC, but it's all close. I'm already at 97% to win according to CP but there's still plenty of variance left.
>Doug: AEHOOT 13C OOTHE.A +28 126
>Avery: AADFNNT 11E AD..ANT +40 278
>Doug: EEFINR 14H .EFINER +38 164
>Avery: CEFGNRR 15M FER +25 303
#note With three S's, a Y and a blank unseen, and him having just gotten six chances at drawing at least one of them, I got paranoid and decided to block it. This ended up being a theme this tournament - too much paranoid defense. This leave is garbage. CP puts it behind CORF, which I saw and would have done before REFINER. Not the worst example of paranoid defense, but I'd call this a mistake given that I'm keeping 4 consonants in a consonant-heavy pool.
>Doug: AMPV 12A VAMP +42 206
>Avery: ?ACGNPR 14A CRAP +28 331
>Doug: EEHILNT 9I THEELIN +68 274
>Avery: ?DGNSTT N7 ST.NG +8 339
#note CP doesn't even list this as an option, but I honestly can't see how I lose after this. QUOIN and ZOON are still available, but QUIN, ZEIN, QUINONE and QUINSY (and other plays probably) are all blocked. I don't think this is too paranoid actually, given that there are two S's unseen.
>Doug: EQUY 10B QUEY +41 315
>Avery: ?DEINST 8L NE. +9 348
#note It's not worth it to block ZOON. minus a lot.
>Doug: IOORSWZ D6 ZOWI. +21 336
#note But he did not see STINGO.
>Avery: ?DIST 13K TIDeS +30 378
>Avery: (ORS) +6 384
