Player 1
#player1 Will Will
#player2 Scott Scott
>Will: BEGNVVY 8H BEVVY +40 40
#note W: If I had something different for lunch I might've done 8D instead of 8H. I could go either way.
>Scott: BEENRST 7L BE +12 12
#note S: I like the essence of my play, as I feel like I'm going to bingo next turn. But...it's obviously WAY behind the double-double BREVETS. Also finishes behind VERB, and even slightly behind BREVET.
>Will: ?CGNNOR N1 CRaNNOG +78 118
#note W: Coin flip with N1 CORNING, but I could be persuaded that maybe playing somewhere other than N1 is better given Scott's range after BE.
>Scott: AEINRST O7 STEARIN +81 93
#note S: Glad I found a bingo here. I like my play, given I'm still going to be down a tempo and 25...nice and volatile, which I want, given there's already that juicy C up top. It was among several top plays, including BARNIEST/BANISTER.
>Will: DIMPRTZ 9F TRIM +21 139
#note W: Great chances to hit a Z bomb here if I keep it. CP likes it.
>Scott: ?DEELOO 14I DOOLEEs +75 168
>Will: ADEGPUZ 15D UPGAZED +119 258
#note W: Oh, come on. ZEP would've been enough.
>Scott: AEIJNPT 1J INJE.T +69 237
#note S: I spent a good 15 seconds head-on-the-table-laughing when Will dropped UPGAZED. Glad I had a strong response.
>Will: ISTTWXY 4K TWI.Y +30 288
#note W: Autopiloted this move big time, and it cost me. Didn't stop to look for options like 13M WYN or F6 WITTY, which looks much smarter to me now. TWINY actually sims best, but with a small lead and tempo I shouldn't be making such a volatile lane.
>Scott: ACEILNP 5E PANICLE +98 335
#note S: Wow, might I actually beat this guy?
>Will: FLMOSTX 6D FOX +58 346
>Scott: DEIQRSW 1H RE...... +51 386
#note S: Spent a minute or two here debating REINJECT vs dumping the Q for 21. Sim suggests it's not close, take the points.
>Will: EKLMNST 3M K. +22 368
#note W: Another mistake here. I did this because I had a decent chance with all the As and Os to come of hitting MANTLES on row 2 or MELTONS on row 13. But, by the same token, since there are so many A's to come, Scott's best scoring spot is on row 4 hooking APO and AX, and playing LEK blocks it. Not only that, he could have SUQ in that spot, which would really sting. Though I give up a smidge of bingo%, LEK has to be the better move. It actually would also have the benefit of blocking setups like the one he actually made.
>Scott: DEIIQSW 7E WE +23 409
#note S: I drew IE after my last play, which started a seriously impressive vowel drawing streak. I loved my play here, especially given Will's last play. And it simmed best, even without any inference on Q's part. I'm expecting Will to bingo, but even if not, I expect him to leave my spot open - if he can't bingo would he bust up the rack for 40 points? Just need to hit an A or U (9 out of the last 32 tiles).
>Will: EGLMNST M13 G.M +12 380
#note W: I was really close to playing MELTS here and obviously that's what I should have done. I was a bit too fixated on keeping my E because there was only one left and I thought I would need it to bingo on row 2.
>Scott: DIIQSUU 8A QUIDS +60 469
#note S: Hit the fish, with a pair of U's. Up 89 now, what could go wrong?
>Will: EEHLNST N10 HE +28 408
>Scott: AAHIIOU 3H OHIA +14 483
#note S: OHIA simmed best, I loved the damage I was doing to his bingo chances. HALO at L12 was almost as good, according to Quack.
>Will: ELNORST B7 T.RNSOLE +70 478
>Scott: AAAIIOU D6 .A.O +14 497
#note S: and this concludes the part of the game where I've drawn 12 vowels in 13 tiles. Championship Player said FADO is best, and that I still win 17% of endgames. Hard to imagine.
>Will: AADLRTU A12 DATA +30 508
#note W: I played a few draws out with DATA and LATU to try and figure out which would be best. DATA has the benefit of some sneaky outs - (AL)ULAR, (DO)LOUR, RULI(ER) - but although CP says it wins 7/8, it actually loses when I draw the I or U. On the other hand, LATU threatens (BY)ROAD, RAID(ER), and DURA 10H - but Scott can block DURA with SOFA to win, and I would lose with an A draw. With both plays at 5/8 to win, the tiebreaker might be Scott's play of FADO. Since he played an A, he's slightly likelier to have had an A already, and that means I should have played LATU!
>Scott: AAFIISU K8 .AU +6 503
#note S: One thing about me is that I often hemorrhage equity points once my winning chances plummet to zero. No outlier here in that regard - I spend so much time looking for any play worth anything that I blank on Will's out spot. Will - unreal - 20-0.
>Will: LORU 12A ..LOUR +14 522
#note W: Certainly the luckiest tournament I've ever had. Next dinner's on me, Scott.
>Will: (AFIIS) +16 538
