>Chris_Tallman: DIMOSTZ 8F DITZ +28 28
#note Chris played this partly to help him score next turn, partly to throw me off guard. It's not a big sacrifice, so good on him for making this play!
>Joshua_Sokol: AABINSV G7 V.A +11 11
#note And throw me off it did. Luckily my inference-based play isn't a mistake here. This is 3 points off 9I AVA with no inference, 3 points higher than AVA with an SOM inference, and I'm not even going to mention a Q or X inference. Interestingly playing DITZ with the I on the star is also very strong with an X, as (Z)A underlaps may occur, giving us a humongous X play to or from J10.
>Chris_Tallman: MNORRST -MNR +0 28
>Joshua_Sokol: AABEINS F8 .AB +14 25
#note Now, I think that Chris has exchanged his X or Q, I feel like I can accomplish a bit more than just stifling him for a turn or two. This seemed like a good idea, since it doesn't give him much novelty to work with, and sets me up nicely. He probably doesn't have an L, but it is possible I am setting him up with an S. Nevertheless, I feel I am a rather large favorite to hit the hook I just made. Other plays with or through the Z are desirable, but I didn't want to give Chris any gifts. Underscored by 1.
>Chris_Tallman: GOORRST -GOR +0 28
#note Chris is now a tad happier to sit on his ORST leave than he was last turn.
>Joshua_Sokol: AAEILNS I8 .A +12 37
#note And without much thought, I plunk this down, thinking it must be correct now. SALANIZE* was seen, but my brain was unable to process that there was in fact a word there. Huge, huge blunder that sets the tone for much of the rest of the game.
>Chris_Tallman: AIOQRST 11D QIS +31 59
>Joshua_Sokol: ABEILNS J9 LESBIAN +65 102
>Chris_Tallman: AAMORTT D11 .AT +24 83
#note An interesting position for Chris, where he has he choice to play short, play to the N for scoring defense, or play MOAT at K10. I think I would have chosen MOAT for 26 here.
>Joshua_Sokol: EEFNORY 15H FE.NY +45 147
>Chris_Tallman: AILMORT L8 MORALIT. +82 165
#note or MOLARITY. Chris was going to play elsewhere when he finally found this one.
>Joshua_Sokol: CEEOORY M5 COOEY +28 175
#note missing C7 COYER for 34, which looks better but could backfire more often.
>Chris_Tallman: FRT 12B FR.T +9 174
>Joshua_Sokol: EEGKNPR K5 PEKE +25 200
#note I thought I was in good shape here after this play. I was unsure of PIKING, but I should have played it at 13I anyway. I can't necessarily afford to play this type of defense at this stage, and the next play is proof.
>Chris_Tallman: ?DEGNRS 13F pRES.D.NG +74 248
#note only bingo! beautiful find
>Joshua_Sokol: EGJMNRR L4 REM +22 222
#note I liked creating a phantom T hook here now that I was in bad shape, and keeping the J wasn't that bad, since with many two-vowel draws I am hitting a huge play at N10. But perhaps I should just play 8K (EME)RG anyway. It gives me different outs, and perhaps allows me to win more often, especially because it keeps the E.
>Chris_Tallman: EHHOUVW N11 VU.H +22 270
#note Worrisome stuff in the pool. Would you play VU(G)H like Chris did, not opening anything new for me to work with, or would you play HEU(G)H for 40 and give me one shot to make something happen? The main issue with VU(G)H is that the rest of the game may very well be a race for a T for T(REM). Therefore many people may lean towards making the aggressive play. But actually if I hit the triple lane after HEUGH I can still come back and win after a bingo. So I think Chris made the right decision.
>Joshua_Sokol: AGIJLNR C12 .AJ +24 246
#note although this time if I play EMERG Chris will surely attempt to block the G, even with T(REM) available. I figured he might not even know the hook or see it. So this gambit looked like what needed to be done. Hopefully convince him I have the A and mess up his thought process. Looked bleak though.
>Chris_Tallman: EHILOUW O14 OW +20 290
#note unsure if this was his rack.
>Joshua_Sokol: GILNNRR 8K ...RG +24 270
>Chris_Tallman: AEHILOU 15A HEAL +35 325
#note Chris still thinks I have the A, and opts to block the RAJA spot instead of playing AHE(D) for 36. He also considered blocking the G with (G)UL or LU(G) for 4 to keep AHE(D) for next turn if I take the RAJA spot. But since TREM is a thing that would have been a mistake.
>Joshua_Sokol: AILNNRS O1 SNARLIN. +80 350
#note or would it have been? What a lucky draw of AS. Wow. Propelled me back in the game.
