>Jonathan_Lindh: ACDIQSU 8D QUIDS +50 50
#note Chicago Literacy Tournament: Game 1: Okay. Making my return to the Scrabble tournament scene after a bad showing in Atlanta and a 5 hour surgery in late September. The surgery didn't seem to affect my play, and with all the free time to study words, I think I improved a lot! Anyways, Quackle rates this as best, but I suspect QUADS is better because of what comes next. I don't know on this one.
>Doug_Lundquist: EIRTVY C7 VERITY +33 33
#note Doug seems to burn me a lot on really small mistakes. THis is why I have a terrible record against him.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AABCERS B10 BEARS +43 93
#note If I had done QUADS, I would have drawn into ASCRIBE/CARIBES! Anyways, Quackle likes fishing here and playing B10 BA keeping ACERS; I took the points for the highest scoring play. My play is 5th best and -4.2 according to Quackle but I'd do it again.
>Doug_Lundquist: ?DELNOP H8 .PLENDOr +83 116
#note Best play for Doug! There are a bunch of inferior UN- bingos through the U as well.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ACIORUX A12 COIR +42 135
#note 3rd best play! COAX in the same spot. The X is not that great on this board. How do I miss this? -17.5
>Doug_Lundquist: ACLNOOT F3 LOCAT.ON +64 180
#note 2nd best play for Doug! ECOTONAL 11H for 70 is his best but potentially gives more back. -6.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEEIKUX E10 EAUX +24 159
#note What did I say about the X being not that great on this board? 10E UNALIKE is beautiful! Great leave, opens the board, keeps the X, and scores almost as much as mine. My play is 3rd best and -3.6. I'm not a fan of Quackle's 2nd best LUXE 10H because it gves too much back. SO by my book, I made the 2nd best play!
>Doug_Lundquist: ABEHRV 11G B.HAVER +30 210
>Jonathan_Lindh: EEFIIKW 12L FEW +30 189
#note 3rd best play! I saw WIFELIKE, spent a really long time thinking, and then chickened out on it. I like my play because it scores and keeps the possibility of -LIKE bingos open, but I need toplay WIFELIKE! As it turns out, the game was probably lost anyway because of what comes next. -71.6 UGGH!
>Doug_Lundquist: ?EGLNUU 14G L.NGUEUr +74 284
#note Best play for Doug! Really good find too! Had I played WIFELIKE and he played this I would still be down 284-249. I guess I would have had a chance though.
>Jonathan_Lindh: DEIIKNZ 10H .EZ +68 257
#note Best play!
>Doug_Lundquist: IRTW 3B TWIR. +16 300
>Jonathan_Lindh: DIIKMNO 5D MI.K +24 281
#note 4th best play! I was stumped here so coming up with this I considered a victory. I need to make something happen here, and by setting up either MICKS or MICKY I can maybe make a comeback. Quackle like A6 IMIDO best which scores a few more and keeps the board open for bingos. I didn;t see it. I also considered KID 10L for 25 which is 3rd best. I don't know why I didn't play it. -5.1
>Doug_Lundquist: AIJ 10M AJI +29 329
#note KID also doesn't gives Doug these cheap points.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ADFINOR O7 RAD.O +18 299
#note This was another turn I had no clue what to do with. My play open the board, but I don't think scores enough to justify it. Once again, missing OBI plays. A7 FIDO for 29 is best. -16.2
>Doug_Lundquist: ADEIMN N2 MEDINA +24 353
>Jonathan_Lindh: EFHINOS O1 FINE +34 333
#note This was another agonizing turn. Quackle suggestions of FOH and FEH in a few spots are pointless because bingos aren't happening on this board. It comes down to keeping one mid scoring tile and playing off the other for 30-50 points. I consider mine the next second best and -3.6 because it kills an obvious scoring spot while keeping HS for hitting H1. However, I blanked on NEIFS for some reason, only thinking of NIEFS*. HUGE HUGE mistake given what Doug had. NEIFS puts me down by only 353-348 and with Doug's rack, he won't be scoring well. Instead...
>Doug_Lundquist: AEGILTT 6E T.ILGATE +69 422
#note Best play for Doug! I was very pissed off when I saw this come down. NEIFS prevents this horrible scenario.
>Jonathan_Lindh: GHOOPST 4A POOS +35 368
#note And for the 8th millionth time I miss the fricking OBI hook! This time wasn't as bad. My play or A6 PHOTO for 35 as well seem both equally good. Thank goodness I didn;t try HOOS*. I was kicking myself for not playing HOOS* LOL!
>Doug_Lundquist: AENOSY M3 YO +26 448
>Jonathan_Lindh: GHT M9 H... +11 379
#note This was horrible. I was so pissed off about TAILGATE that I missed or chickened out on GHAT Score should have been 448-384 Doug. Instead it became 475-379 Doug. BAD BAD BAD.
>Doug_Lundquist: AENS A4 .ANES +21 469
#note This or PEANS is best.
>Doug_Lundquist: (GT) +6 475
#note Okay but not great start. WIFELIKE and NEIFS were unacceptable mistakes. And I think I'd like QUIDS back as well!
