>Jim_Burlant: CEJNNQV E7 C.VEN +20 122
#note Uh...yuck. Since I could turn 4 tiles and score 20 pts, I felt there was enough chance to draw into a Q or J play on the next turn, so exchanging didn't seem necessary. Q concurs - this is best; interestingly, Championship Player's runner-up is completely counterintuitive: exchange 6, keeping the J, presumably because it thinks 7I plays will still be open. But that still wins a lot less often and gives up almost 8 equity to this.
>q: FGGRVWY -FGGRVWY +0 33
>Jim_Burlant: DIJNPQU 7I JIN +40 162
#note To my opponent this looks like I'm just scoring 40 pts. However, the real intent is to set up the Q, which is why I played JIN instead of JUN. This is clearly best.
>q: ACEIRTT 11D I.TERACT +70 103
>Jim_Burlant: DNOPQUY 6J QUOD +68 230
#note Kapow!
>q: ABDLNUV 12A VULN +26 129
>Jim_Burlant: ADENPSY L9 DYSPNEA +89 319
#note The question - to play this at N4 for 84 or here for 89? While the N4 placement doesn't open 3x3's, I felt that putting the N at 8N gave back too many high-scoring overlaps.Though this opens up a 3x3, the A column already has a 3x3 open so this doesn't create new danger per se. And if he doesn't put down a 3x3 here, row 15 plays aren't as likely to give as much back as overlaps would have with the N column placement. Q agrees - Championship Player makes clear this is the better play, and the equity loss for the N4 placement would have been 8 points.
>q: AABDFRS 15G ABFAR.DS +92 221
>Jim_Burlant: ?ILOORT M1 TOROI.aL +66 385
#note Major mistake. I was overly fixated on the QUOD back hooks (only 1 remaining) and not looking at the whole board. ROOTLI(N)g on row 13 scores 2 more and doesn't open the 3x3. The only surprise to me is that the duck thinks this is only a 2-point mistake relative to ROOTLING; IMO this should have beebn at least a 6 or 7-point dog. This play was costly - while I still wound up winning the game, this turned it into a much closer game than it should have otherwise been.
>q: AEEEPRT 3F REPEATE. +62 283
#note If I had played on row 13 like I should have, what does the duck do with this?
>Jim_Burlant: ADGGOTW 2L W.G +19 404
#note Couldn't find a good way to unload more of the garbage, so I took a defensive tack and wanted to make sure I added at least some resistance to row 1. Statically this play is mid-pack, but Q (both the sim and Championship Player) indicates it's the best option I have, as it unloads one of the G's and defends as well as anything I have available.
>q: ABEIMSU N8 IAMBUSE. +88 371
#note Wait a minute! This was a blowout a couple of turns ago!
>Jim_Burlant: ADGIOTX O5 OXID +48 452
>q: EFHKOOT H1 KO.H +51 422
>Jim_Burlant: AGIIORT 13F RIGATO.I. +74 526
#note Redeeming myself for the TOROIDAL mistake. My favorite play this game.
>q: AEFLNOT 2G O.F +13 435
>Jim_Burlant: EEEGRWY A11 E.ERY +33 559
#note Just wanting to make sure that an A-column 3x3 doesn't lose the game. After reailizing this put me up by 124 poiints, I knew that even if the duck bingoed out, it wouldn't be enough. This is best.
