#note I passed up both XI at 7I and AX at 9D because of the hotspots they created, but at the cost of crippling my own rack. ACDIN is a major upgrade over ACDN - a jump from 4.6 to 9.7 according to cross-table's nifty leave evaluator. Therefore AX looks like the play.
>Alec_Sjoholm: IK 7I KI +22 40
>JD: ACDLNOT C3 CLOT +25 75
#note didn't feel like Alec was going to love COTLAND#.
>Alec_Sjoholm: EEINRTU K5 RETINUE +85 125
>JD: ADDFNTU 9I FU.D +26 101
#note FUND at L8 spending my N is 2 more. should be worth it
>Alec_Sjoholm: BNO E4 BON.. +44 169
#note he called this at 44 - apparently I didn't check.
>JD: ADDEHNT 12H HANDED +39 140
#note HET doesn't quite seem worth it. could also play BATHED for 3 points less but better leave.
>Alec_Sjoholm: ACRY H11 C.ARY +39 208
>JD: ADLOTTU 13L DOUT +19 159
#note must open threats somehow
>Alec_Sjoholm: ANPRY O10 PAN.RY +36 244
>JD: AALSSTV 15A VASSALT. +95 254
#note probably my favorite play of the tournament - an intentional phony! Had to live up to my nickname. without having played alec before, I know he's young and maybe hasn't reached deep into the 8s on studying yet. the best normal play isn't too bad, VAST at 9B saving an A, with a win percentage of 17%, whereas VASSALTY is all the way up at 46% win. of course, losing a turn dumps me to 2% win, but by the raw numbers alone I should be playing thing if I think there's at least a 1/3 chance of it staying on. I thought my odds were about 50-50.
>Alec_Sjoholm: ?AEINRW 5G uNWA.IER +60 304
#note NOTE in case you missed it - don't play VASSALTY*! VASSALRY# in CSW15 is the closest real thing. Perhaps he would be more likely to have challenged if he had a bad rack?
>JD: FGIIQSW H1 WIFI.G +42 296
#note ok, I have a shot...
>Alec_Sjoholm: ?AEMOTT 13A TErATOM. +74 378
#note AUTOMATE is 7 more for him here
>JD: EHLNPQS L4 Q. +22 318
#note A 2-ply quackle sim thinks I can with after SHEQEL, which strikes me as unlikely. Again, a 6-ply sim disabuses Q of that notion - even if I draw the blank there almost certainly won't be time to bingo with it.
>Alec_Sjoholm: ERZ 12B REZ +49 427
>JD: EEHLNPS G7 ..N +4 322
#note in spite of the claims of quackle sim, surely there's no other hope for me than this - I threaten WHEEPLES for 107 with 3/12 tiles! Alec can probably still outrun me with the right plays, but I see no other try that gives me even a shadow of a chance.
>Alec_Sjoholm: GI M3 GI. +19 446
>JD: EEHLPSV 6J H.S +40 362
#note even if I had drawn WHEEPLES, every endgame is technically a win for him. Instead I draw the worst possible tile on my fish - an unplayable V!! I can't even fish for my bingo again. I threw in the towel and went for points. probably should play REV and hope for WHEEPLES draw to cut spread.
>Alec_Sjoholm: BEEJOSU 10D JUBE +23 469
>JD: EEELOPV A10 LEP. +27 389
#note Q thinks that HES was a mistake earlier, but I'm not so sure - as far as I saw it my goal with my last two plays was to score HES and then score the P with PREZ. might as well take HES first and try to draw a PREZ play.
